Taylor
Taylor Swift was a rarity in pop: she is the only superstar to have crossed from country into the mainstream, and to become a pop icon worldwide. Swift shed the country influences like they were an extra layer of skin and revealed she was one of the finest singers/songwriters from the generation she was born into. Swift could make the event personal and use it to her advantage. The skills she displayed were apparent on her earliest hits especially the Neo-Tribute Tim McGraw but her second album 2008's Fearless showcased a songwriter discovering her true identity and in the process, finding the mass market. Fearless became a worldwide hit but not only in the United States (where it received with six platinum awards for Top Ten Hits Love Story as well as "You Belong with Me") as well as in Canada Australia as well as the U.K. and many other countries. Swift could build on her progress with Speak Now almost two year after. Swift's popularity continued to grow through her subsequent three albums -- Red (2012) 1989 (2014) as well as Reputation (2017) -- which saw her move into the realm of pop where she already belonged. Although she slowed down her work with folklore and Evermore albums in the year 2020, she was at the forefront of pop music.
