Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speechwriter. She founded Feminist Frequency which is a website that features videos and comments on the representations of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and award-winning feminist for nearly a decade. Feminist Frequency, a website to educate women about their role in the narratives of pop culture was the result of her research. She also serves as the director of operations. In addition, she works to bring awareness to sexual harassment and attack on women and others of minority groups in the online world, she is committed to breaking the stereotypes associated with popular culture. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. In addition to being an acclaimed public speaker, she's given presentations at TEDxWomen XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was interested in gender issues and feminism at a early time. When she graduated in 2009, in university she started the Feminist Frequency website. This ambitious woman planned to create an online program that would examine gender representation in games, but was the target of an online harassment campaign. However the attack could not deter her instead it was a boost to her determination as a feminist critic of media. She has won numerous awards to recognize her notable contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media journalist who has received many awards, and also founded Feminist Frequency as an educational nonprofit that studies the ways women are depicted within popular culture narratives.
